Thiel College NSSLHA chapter earns top national recognition for third consecutive year

GREENVILLE, Pa.—The Thiel College chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association has been awarded Gold Chapter Honors for the 2024-25 academic year, recognizing the chapter’s accomplishments in member engagement, community service, advocacy and fundraising.

The national recognition was announced May 13 by the national NSSLHA, the only student organization for pre-professionals studying communication sciences and disorders recognized by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Thiel’s chapter was among 105 chapters nationwide and Puerto Rico to receive Gold Chapter Honors. This marks the third consecutive year that the Thiel College chapter has earned the national organization’s highest recognition level.

Through its annual honors program, the national organization recognizes affiliated chapters that demonstrate excellence in promoting the CSD profession and supporting local, state and national initiatives. Chapters may earn Bronze, Silver or Gold honors based on their level of achievement.

During the 2024–25 academic year, the Thiel College chapter:

“Participation in this organization provides students of speech-language pathology a means to develop professional skills and a genuine care for their vocation beyond the classroom,” said Julie Kobak, associate professor and chapter advisor. “It is rewarding to see our students grow into future leaders in the field.”

The NSSLHA Chapter at Thiel College supports student involvement and professional development in the field of communication sciences and disorders, providing opportunities for leadership, service and advocacy.

National NSSLHA, founded in 1972 and headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, serves more than 10,000 members across 350 chapters at colleges and universities throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.

“This recognition reflects the heart and dedication of our members,” said Aivy Nguyen, National NSSLHA President. “Through their passion and service, chapters across the country continue to uplift their communities and advance the future of our professions.
