GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College officially launched the public phase of Join the Journey, the largest fundraising campaign in College history, during Homecoming 2026, introducing the $100 million campaign to alumni, students, employees and friends of the College at events throughout the weekend.

With approximately $94 million already raised toward its $100 million goal, Join the Journey represents an unprecedented investment in Thiel’s students, academic programs and campus. Thiel College’s largest campaign to prior to the current one was completed in 2016 and raised $65 million.

The most visible sign of that investment may be difficult to miss.

A large sign near the future home of the Olympus Athletic and Recreation Center announces the newest major addition to Thiel’s campus. The approximately $10 million facility, however, represents just one piece of the much broader Join the Journey campaign.

The campaign brings together philanthropic support for scholarships, innovative academic programs, facilities, student experiences and the ongoing needs that allow the College to respond to new opportunities and challenges.

“Join the Journey is about investing in the entire Thiel experience,” President Susan Traverso, Ph.D. said. “Our alumni and friends understand the transformative impact this College has on its students. Their generosity allows us to build on that tradition—opening doors for talented students, strengthening our academic programs and creating the environment and experiences that prepare Tomcats to lead, serve and succeed.”

Rather than focusing exclusively on a single building or initiative, Join the Journey rallies Thiel alumni, friends and partners around a collection of priorities intended to strengthen the College for the future.

Those investments build on a long tradition of philanthropic support at Thiel. Donor generosity has helped make possible major campus improvements, including the renovation of the Daniel and Dorothy Spence Academic Center and improvements to Maenpa Court in Beeghly Gymnasium, while unrestricted gifts through the Thiel Fund provide flexibility to address needs ranging from laboratory equipment and student programming to unexpected expenses and opportunities.

“The response to Join the Journey reflects the deep connection our alumni and friends have with Thiel and their confidence in its future,” Vice President for College Advancement Roberta Leonard said. “What makes this campaign especially meaningful is the breadth of its impact. Every gift can help create opportunities for students—whether through scholarships, innovative academic programs, an enhanced campus environment or the experiences that prepare our graduates for what comes next.”

Among the campaign’s signature projects is the Olympus Athletic and Recreation Center, a planned approximately 40,000-square-foot facility that will expand athletic, recreation and wellness opportunities for the entire campus community.

Fundraising has already secured approximately $8.5 million of the center’s $10 million cost, with the project being funded through philanthropic support. The facility is expected to be completed in 2027.

The campaign also emphasizes access to a Thiel education through scholarship support and investment in academic programs that respond to the changing needs of students, employers and communities.

“Reaching this point before the public launch demonstrates the extraordinary commitment of those who helped establish the campaign,” Leonard said. “The final phase is about more than reaching a number. We want every member of the Thiel community to see a place for themselves in this campaign and an opportunity to help shape what comes next.”

For more than 160 years, Thiel has provided students with an education built around personal relationships, close faculty mentorship and hands-on experiences. Join the Journey is designed to preserve those defining characteristics while giving the College resources to evolve as student and workforce needs change.

“Our world is in a period of transition and discovery, and it needs leadership from Tomcats,” Traverso said. “Join the Journey gives us an opportunity to make a lasting impact on generations of students. Together, we can ensure that Thiel continues to be a place where students discover their potential, find a community that believes in them and graduate prepared to become the leaders the world needs now.”

The public launch during Homecoming follows the campaign’s leadership phase, during which the College secured commitments from alumni, friends and partners.

Since Join the Journey began more than 1,800 donors have made in excess of 5,000 gifts, supporting projects and programs across the College. With approximately $6 million remaining to reach the campaign goal, the public phase broadens the invitation to the entire Thiel community to participate in the most ambitious fundraising effort in College history.
