GREENVILLE, Pa.—The Xi Epsilon chapter of Kappa Sigma recently presented a check for $5,700 to the Reynolds VFW following their 30th annual See-Saw-A-Thon bringing the total of their fundraising efforts for local veterans to $15,700.

Kappa Sigma raised the $5,700 during its three-day See-Saw-A-Thon in late September and presented the VFW with a check on Friday, Nov. 15. In the days and weeks following a devastating fire that destroyed the Reynolds VFW Post 7599 building in early 2024, the members of Kappa Sigma raised about $10,000 to help the VFW recover from the fire.

A statement from The Reynolds Board of Trustees said, “Kappa Sigma, may never know the true power of their efforts. Through their donations, they have inspired so many; they have helped change the lives of veterans; they have changed many people’s understanding of what a fraternity is and can be. For that, they should be proud and know how honored the Reynolds VFW is to be part of this family.”

Thiel College Assistant Director of IT Operations and Veterans Liaison Mike Mason is also a trustee for the Reynolds VFW.

In addition, Kappa Sigma, in partnership with Reynolds VFW, also raised and donated about $3,000 for the Mercer County Food Bank, which will cover the cost of more than 950 Thanksgiving meals for veterans.

For the past three decades, the Xi Epsilon chapter of Kappa Sigma has raised thousands of dollars by collecting donations from passing motorists while its members ride a 25-foot-long metal see-saw for 72 consecutive hours. In the past money raised would be donated to Kappa Sigma’s national organization, which created the Military Heroes Campaign in 2007. The campaign honors and aids thousands of military veterans and their families in communities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Since its inception, the campaign has donated more than $1 million to non-profit organizations that advocate on behalf of servicemen and women and those wounded in combat. In 2023, the funds collected by Kappa Sigma were earmarked for local veterans with the Reynolds VFW coordinating the effort to distribute the funds locally.
