GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College alumnus Mitchell Mason ’25 was featured Friday in the Greenville Record Argus after establishing the “Mitch” Mason Kappa Sigma Scholarship, a new award through the college’s Xi Epsilon chapter of Kappa Sigma focused on supporting veterans.
Mason graduated in three years this May with a bachelor’s degree in health systems and was one of the College’s valedictorians. The 2022 Reynolds High School graduate and health systems major is studying Mercyhurst University’s physician assistant master’s program. He said in the story in the Record-Argus that he drew inspiration from his family’s legacy of service. His father, Mike Mason, is a U.S. Army veteran and Thiel veterans liaison, and his grandfather, Merle Mason, is a long‑time VFW and community leader. The scholarship is to reward fraternity brothers who contribute significantly to veterans’ efforts, Mitchell Mason said.
The Xi Epsilon chapter of Kappa Sigma has a decades‑long tradition of supporting veterans, including its annual 72‑hour see‑saw‑a‑thon fundraiser, and relief efforts for the Reynolds VFW after a 2024 fire. “Whoever makes the biggest impact on veterans,” Mason said of the scholarship’s intended recipients, underscoring its mission to honor service.
This initiative builds on Thiel College’s status as a leading institution for military students. In 2024, Thiel earned the Gold Military Friendly® School designation—placing within the top 10 percent of private liberal arts institutions nationally—and also ranked among the top Military Spouse Friendly Schools. Previously, in 2023, Thiel was named the No. 1 Military Friendly® private college in its category.
Through the “Mitch” Mason Kappa Sigma Scholarship, Mason hopes to instill a legacy of service and inspire his peers and future Thiel graduates.
