Lutz, Shepler named Thiel College’s September Student of the Month honorees

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College announces Daniel Lutz ’22, of Loveland, Ohio, and Molly Shepler ’22, of Punxsutawney, Pa., as the Student of the Month honorees for September.

The Student of the Month honor is awarded to seniors. It is among the most prestigious student awards at Thiel College with only about six students each semester earning the honor.

Lutz is an early childhood/special education major. He is a member of the Dietrich Honors Institute, the education honorary society Kappa Delta Pi, the Rotaract Club, and the Thiel College baseball team.

Outside of Thiel, Lutz has worked for three years as a summer camp counselor. He has also been a volunteer at the Good Shepherd Food Pantry in Greenville, Pa.

Lutz is a 2018 graduate of Milford High School. Following graduation, he plans to find a teaching job in early elementary education. He is the twin brother of Alex Lutz ’22, and the son of Mark and Beth Lutz, of Loveland, Ohio.

“Thank you to my family for always supporting me!” said Lutz. “Being at a school like Thiel, I’ve had the ability to get to know some great people. Between my teammates, classmates, and professors, I know I’ve made great friends for life.”

Shepler is majoring in English with a focus on professional writing and is pursuing minors in both business administration and fine art. She is a co-editor of The Phoenix, the College’s creative works journal, and an editor of The Lectern, the College’s new undergraduate research journal. She serves as secretary for the English honorary society Sigma Tau Delta and for the Neuroscience Club, and she is a member of the Dietrich Honors Institute and the Alpha Chi honor society. She is also a leader of the Thiel Bible study. On campus, she is a student worker in the Office of Financial Aid and in the Office of Communications and Marketing, and she is a writing lab tutor in the Thiel Learning Commons. She has been on the Dean’s List for each of her previous six semesters at Thiel.

Outside of college, Shepler has worked for the past two summers as a municipal intern for Greenville, Pa., which is a position sponsored by the Local Government Academy in Pittsburgh. She was also employed during the summer of 2021 by the College as a Middle States Commission on Higher Education Consultant. She is a member of the Paradise United Church of Christ in Reynoldsville, Pa.

Shepler is a 2018 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School. Following graduation, she plans to find work related to copy editing and/or business and technical writing. Shepler is the daughter of Charles and Melissa Shepler, of Punxsutawney, Pa.

“Thiel has provided me with not only valuable learning experiences, but also valuable life experiences,” said Shepler. “The memories I have made here will go with me for the rest of my life; I will always be grateful for the way Thiel has shaped me and for the relationships I have developed during my time here.”
