GREENVILLE, Pa.—Jefferson Area High School senior Megan Jacobs, of Jefferson, Ohio, was awarded an academic scholarship worth more $133,000 to Thiel College during a surprise presentation at the school on Tuesday, Dec. 17.

The scholarship announcement was made in front of many of her peers in the cafeteria along with representatives of Jefferson Area High School, Thiel College and her family.

Jacobs yelled, “I did it!” upon spotting the large promotional check and the entire cafeteria went silent. Moments later, the principal announced her scholarship win and everyone in the cafeteria cheered.

“Megan is a person that always gives back, puts herself last, and has always been the underdog. It is a blessing that Thiel College saw Megan for who she truly is,” Megan’s mother, Jeannie Jacobs, said.

Jacobs was named a student of the month in high school. She is a member of The Ohio Academy of Science and an Ohio State Fair Ambassador. She was a member of the soccer and track & field teams in high school.

She was one of five winners for 2019. The scholarship was granted on the basis of her performance at scholarship competition at Thiel College that was attended by 150 students and her academic and civic accomplishments.

She is the daughter of Jeannie and Dennis Jacobs, of Jefferson, Ohio.

This is the third year for the presentation ceremony.
