Business and environmental science students recognized as first Students of Month for 2018-2019

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College announces Terri Eddy ’19, of Grange Hill, Jamaica, and Erika Hiwiller ’19, of West Sunbury, Pa., as its October Students of the Month.

Eddy, a 2015 graduate of Conneaut Area Senior High School and first-generation college student, is an accounting and business double major with a finance track.

Following graduation, Eddy will work as a staff accountant for Ernst & Young in Pittsburgh.

She serves as the president of the Student Government Association and is a member of the Dietrich Honors Institute. In addition, she is involved with Alpha Chi national honor society, Les Lauriers scholarship, leadership and service honor society, Chi Eta Sigma business honor society, and Lambda Sigma sophomore honor society.

Eddy’s mother, Valrie Campbell, lives in Grange Hill, Jamaica, and her father and stepmother, Rick and Nordia Eddy, live in Harmonsburg, Pa.

 Hiwiller, a 2015 graduate of Moniteau High School, is an environmental science major. After graduating from Thiel, she plans to attend graduate school.

She is vice president of Chi Omega fraternity, and treasurer of Pi Nu Epsilon musical performing arts honor society. She is also in Alpha Chi national honor society, the Order of Omega Greek leadership society, and Lambda Sigma sophomore honor society. Hiwiller is a member of the Dietrich Honors Institute, the Thiel Tomcat Marching Pride, the flute choir, and the environmental club.

Hiwiller conducted surveys for a unique recycling convention in order to develop the event further. She has led stations at Pymatuning Field Day for Greenville High School’s ecology class and been involved in the Earth Day activities that Thiel conducts each spring.

Hiwiller is the daughter of Angela Smith, of West Sunbury, Pa., and the late Eric Hiwiller.

The Student of the Month is awarded to seniors. It is among the most prestigious student awards at Thiel College, with only about six students each semester earning the honor.
