A look back at the College’s Top 10 stories from 2019

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Stories about student and alumni achievement were among some of the most popular items in the Thiel College Newsroom in 2019. But one story stood out far above all the others in 2019. The following are the Top 10 stories based on the number of views in the Thiel College Newsroom, media attention and social media impact.

10. Employee and alumni among those recognized as Mercer County’s young leaders

May 21/ Director of Career Development Clarissa Arbuckle ’11 was recognized as one of Mercer County’s top young leaders during this year’s Mercer County chambers of commerce “40 under Forty” awards ceremony. Four Thiel College alumni were among the 40 under 40 recognition winners, and the guest speaker was Thiel College alumnus and 2018 40 under 40 recipient Greg Liszka ’03. Also recognized were Family Services of NW PA assistant director of programs Jessica Jamison ’06, Grove City College mental health counselor Cara Papay ’09 and City of Sharon finance director Jason Tomko ’05.

9. Special guest joins Thiel cheer team during basketball game

Feb. 8/ Carmen Triskett posed with the Thiel College cheer squad during a women’s basketball game. Carmen’s sister, Abby ’22, is a first-year player with the Tomcats. Carmen has Down syndrome and is an enthusiastic supporter of her sister.The Tomcat cheerleaders invited Carmen to cheer with the team throughout the game.

8. Campus Store debuts with improved selection and online options

Aug. 9/ The online Campus Store was one of the most popular releases.

7. Thiel College makes exclusive Forbes 200 list for grateful graduates

Sept. 25/ Forbes magazine singled out Thiel College for the second time in three years for the generosity of its graduates. Inclusion on the list signifies that a college has a history of producing graduates who consistently donate to their alma mater.

6. New leader in place for Thiel College Communication program and James Pedas Communication Center

March 6/ Kyle Woody, Ed.D., is the new executive director of Thiel College’s James Pedas Communication Center and will serve as the James Pedas Endowed Chair of Communication and Assistant Professor of Communication.

5. Future teacher, IT analyst awarded Student of the Month honors for April

April 23/ Megan Lee ’19, of Venetia, Pa., and Danyelle Lucido ’19, of Grove City, Pa., are the final Student of the Month honorees for the spring 2019 semester. The pair earned the April honor for their academic achievements..

4. Thiel College releases spring 2019 Dean’s List

June 7/ Two-hundred-thirty-nine students were named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2019 semester.

3. With accrediting agency’s approval, Thiel College makes history with its first graduate program

 Aug. 15/ Thiel College announced Aug. 15 its first five-year graduate degree program—a Master of Science in speech-language pathology—was awarded candidacy status by The Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, which allows the College to recruit and enroll students into the program.

2. Fall 2018 Thiel College Dean’s List honorees announced

Jan. 22/ Thiel College announced 270 students were named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2018 semester.

1. Thiel College plays a starring role in new Coca-Cola college football advertising campaign

Aug. 24/ Thiel College was featured prominently in Coca-Cola’s new college football advertising campaign that debuted Aug. 24 morning on ESPN’s broadcast of “College Game Day.”
