GREENVILLE, Pa.—Match Day, Thiel College’s largest single day of giving that has raised more than $1.5 million since its inception in 2014, will be celebrated with a full schedule of events that will involve donors from around the country, students on campus and local community members on March 7.

Students, staff, faculty and community members are invited to the 11th annual event’s opening ceremony at 9 a.m. in the Rissell-Schreyer Dome. Events will continue in the dome with participants walking laps from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and competing and watching the Tomcat Games at 11 a.m. The celebration will continue with festivities in the Bistro of the Howard Miller Student Center from 2-5 p.m. This past year’s event was the eighth straight year Match Day had a record number of donors. 636 donors contributed $209,746 to Match Day. It is the first time in the event’s history that the number of donors topped 600. Included in those numbers were a record-setting 125 employees. The 2022 event raised an event-record $238,000.

Fundraiser challenges seeking matching donations from the members of fraternities and sororities and clubs and organizations add a dose of competition and rivalry to the event. Those affinity groups compete each year to be the top donating organization.

For the overall event, this year’s goal is 575 donors. If the donor goal is met, the College is going to unveil the plans, design and color scheme for the turf at Alumni Stadium at Stoeber Field.

“Match Day has truly become a beacon of generosity and community spirit at Thiel College. With the unwavering support of our incredible donors and partners, we’ve achieved something truly remarkable,” Director of The Thiel Fund David Mogle said. “That this event has raised more than a million dollars is a testament to the profound impact of collective giving and the enduring commitment of our Thiel College family. Together, we’re not just raising funds; we’re shaping futures, transforming lives and launching the leaders the world needs now.”

Gifts for Match Day go to the College’s Thiel Fund, which is the largest source of unrestricted funds at the College. The Thiel Fund is used to support the areas of greatest need of the College, funding need-based scholarships, academic programming, athletics, and campus improvements. This fund annually provides for unseen expenses, student needs and special opportunities.
