Alumni Stories

Jessica Slupe ’15

  • Major: Criminal Justice and Psychology
  • Employer: Mental Health Worker at Butler Health System

Jessica was always interested in learning about mental health and the brain. When asked why she chose to double major, she said, “Mental illness and criminal involvement are often related and I thought it would help me to better serve the people I want to help.” Jessica credits her excellent Thiel College experience to her Zeta Tau Alpha sorority sisters. “When I joined Zeta Tau Alpha, my entire college experience changed. I was able to come out of my shell and thanks to the amazing women that I met through ZTA, I had enough confidence to become President of the chapter. I can say, without a doubt, that my sisters and the ZTA sorority are the main reasons that I was able to flourish at Thiel.”

Alexandra McClurg ’12

  • Major: Biology
  • Employer: Physician Assistant in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Dr. Michael Abdul Malak, LLC

Alexandra knew she wanted to major in biology when she took her first anatomy and physiology course in high school. She fell in love with the close-knit learning community that Thiel College offers. “The small student/faculty ratio allowed me to absorb much more information and retain it, whereas in other larger settings that would be unachievable... I thoroughly enjoyed coming to class each day and found myself enthralled with the material provided each and every day." After graduating from Thiel in 2012, Alexandra went on to obtain a graduate degree from Chatham University in Physician Assistant Studies.

Ryan Prescott ’12

  • Major: Communication Studies & Media Communication
  • Employer: Project Manager & Social Media Coordinator at AlphaGraphics

Ryan credits his unique classroom experiences with allowing him to grow and embrace his creative side. "I wouldn’t trade my experience at Thiel for the world. I grew more in four years than at any other point in my life. Sigma Phi Epsilon, student events, residence life, and student government were among some of my favorite memories. The Career Services office did a stellar job of setting me up for a smooth transition into the real world.”

Mike Stimac ’08

  • Major: English
  • Employer: High School Principal at Clarion Limestone School District

According to Mike, his professors at Thiel were his biggest inspiration. "The impact of the faculty has spanned beyond my college years and still influences me every day. I was challenged daily to be a better person, student and friend. Thiel was surely concerned about academics, but even more than that, the [english and education] professors helped me to understand the value of growing as a person first and then as a student." Mike earned a Masters of Education degree from Gannon University, and is currently working on his Superintendent Letter of Eligibility through California University of Pennsylvania.
