THIEL'S NYPAVER AND MORRISON NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT FIRST TEAM

GREENVILLE, Pa. (May 8) -- Thiel College junior outfielders David Nypaver (Williamsfield, Ohio/Howland) and Dan Morrison (Cortland, Ohio/Maplewood) were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2 College Division First Team, selected by The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Thursday afternoon. Their selection marks the first time in the history of the baseball program that a pair of Tomcats will advance to the Academic All-American ballot for national consideration.

District II includes all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.

Entering the week Nypaver, named to the College's Dean's List in each of his six semesters, was ranked 14th among Division III counterparts in on-base percentage and 28th in batting average. Nypaver has started 36 games this season for Thiel (27-13) and is currently hitting .444 with an on-base percentage of .557 to go along with four home runs and 37 RBI. He is majoring in secondary education with an emphasis in history and carries a 3.97 GPA.

Morrison, also earning Dean's List status in each of his six semesters, is hitting .397 with 24 RBI in 35 starts this season. Morrison is pursuing a pair of majors in criminal justice studies and sociology and carries a 4.0 GPA.

CoSIDA selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs: football, women's volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's track & field/cross country, women's track & field/cross country, men's at-large and women's at-large. A first team, second team and third team are selected in both the University (Division I and I-AA) and College (Division II, III and NAIA) Divisions. Football consists of just first and second teams.
