THIEL NAMES ANDY HOGGARTH HEAD MEN'S SOCCER COACH

Andy HoggarthGREENVILLE, Pa. (July 3) -- Thiel College has named Andy Hoggarth as its head men's soccer coach.

Hoggarth, a native of Stockton on Tees, England, comes to Thiel from Shenandoah University, where he spent the past two seasons as an assistant with the men's program. He was named the associate head coach prior to the 2006 season.

"We are thrilled with the addition of Andy as our head men's soccer coach. He brings a great amount of diverse experience and his passion for game is going to be contagious," said dean of students and interim athletic director Roseanne Gill-Jacobson.

"Coach Hoggarth realizes that successful programs are not built overnight. We believe he is the right person for the job of turning the corner with our men's program."

Hoggarth, a 2003 graduate of Northumbria University in New Castle, England, earned a bachelors of arts degree in sports science and recently completed his masters degree in health and physical education at Shenandoah.

In England Hoggarth spent time in the youth development program as a goalkeeper with professional clubs Middlesbrough FC and Preston North End FC before playing semi-professionally for a number of years. In 2001 he was a member of the Whitley Bay FC that won the FA Vase. He currently holds an English FA coaching certificate.

"I am thoroughly looking forward to taking over as the head men's soccer coach at Thiel College. It has long been a goal of mine to become a head coach and the opportunity to take over the program at Thiel and become successful is an exciting opportunity that I feel can be achieved over a period of time," said Hoggarth.

"I have definitely received a great introduction to American college soccer and am thankful for the help of everyone at Shenandoah, especially former coach Rob Kulton and current coach Des Lawless. I am raring to go with this new period in my life and the opportunity to provide the students at Thiel with a rewarding academic and athletic experience."
