For Immediate Release: October 21, 2005 THIEL WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAMS CONCLUDES SEASON AT PAC CHAMPIONSHIPS GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 21) -- The Thiel College women's tennis team concluded their season Friday afternoon at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) 2005 Women's Tennis Championships, hosted by Pennbriar Fitness & Racquet Club in Erie, Pa. After one day, Grove City College is in first place with 36 points, followed by Waynesburg College in second with 30 points, Bethany College (20), Westminster College (12), Thomas More College (6), Washington & Jefferson College (4) and Thiel (0). Senior Elizabeth Sensenstein (Akron, Ohio/Ellet) entered the first round at third singles as the seventh seed and fell to second-seeded Jenn Knight from Waynesburg College 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Anika Backstram (Butler/Butler) was the seventh seed at fourth singles and lost to second-seeded Laura Garcia of Waynesburg 6-1, 6-0. Senior Melanie Mehalic (Greenville/Willoughby South, Ohio), seeded seventh at fifth singles, fell to second-seeded Diana DePiano 6-0, 6-2 at fifth singles. Senior Ashley Snyder (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) entered the first round at sixth singles seeded seventh and fell to second-seeded Lisa McLaughlin from Washington & Jefferson College 6-0, 6-1. At second doubles the team of Backstrom and Sensenstein fell to second-seeded Beth Conlon and Jenn Knight of Waynesburg 8-1, and at third doubles the team of Mehalic and Snyder fell to second-seeded Sar DePiano and Evelyn Fabian of Waynesburg 8-4. |
