Program Requirements

Each English major must choose an area of specialization from among the following areas: Literature, Writing, or Secondary Education and fulfill the course requirements for that area as listed below.

Satisfactory completion of Introduction to Literature (ENG 120), one British or American literature survey (ENG 210, 220, 230, or 240) and Advanced Composition and Research (ENG 270) is recommended for all other courses in the major except those in Communication.

NOTE: Students who begin but do not complete one of the certification tracks must complete the literature specialization or writing track for their English major.

Minor Requirements

The selection of courses in the English minor is supported by the following statements:
  1. The required courses represent the essential core of the discipline.

  2. The minor provides for individual selection of courses to reflect individual needs and interests.

REQUIRED: ENG 210 and 220 or ENG 230 and 240; ENG 270, and three other courses not taken to fulfill the above requirements.
