The major is designed to provide a broad-based understanding of communication theory in various communication contexts. Students will integrate theory and its practical application through a variety of courses and experiences. The major prepares students for careers in the public and private sector, print and broadcast media, publishing, government, public relations, and business. The major also provides adequate breadth and depth for students who wish to pursue graduate studies. Media Communication Major Requirements COMM 181 Public Speaking COMM 235 Announcing COMM 280 Survey of Mass Communication COMM 282 Writing for Mass Media COMM 345 Media Ethics COMM 455 Media Law and Regulation COMM 470 Senior Seminar COMM 480 Internship Choose 18 hours of Communication electives. Media Communication Minor Requirements COMM 181 Public Speaking COMM 280 Survey of Mass Communication COMM 282 Writing for Mass Media COMM 455 Media Law and Regulation Choose 12 hours of Communication electives. Communication Studies or COMM 331 Intercultural Communication or COMM 325 Communication Ethics Additionally, at least 21 hours of communication electives must be taken to complete this major. Communication Studies Minor Requirements or COMM 331 Intercultural Communication or COMM 325 Communication Ethics Choose 6 hours of Communication electives. NOTE: In Communication courses a C- or better is required in order for a course to count towards the major. Business Communication or COMM 331 Intercultural Communication or COMM 321 Organizational Communication COMM 340 Public Relations COMM 345 Media Ethics COMM 455 Media Law and Regulation NOTE: In Communication courses a C- or better is required in order for a course to count towards the major.
