West Capitol The political science department is the home for prelaw advising at Thiel. In addition, the department provides numerous opportunities to prelaw students, including internships, Washington semester programs, and a legal studies minor.

Professor Downer serves as the principal prelaw advisor for the college. He can be treached via email at wdowner@thiel.edu as well as by phone or mail.

Thiel College adheres to the prelaw guidelines published by the Law School Admission Council. These guidelines point out that a liberal arts education is the best path for intending law school students. Thiel College provides that education.

Many undergraduate majors are appropriate for intending law school students. No one major is preferred. Students, however, should choose majors and make curriculum choices that are intellectually challenging, have high academic standards, and taken as a whole express a coherent educational purpose.

All students will want to sharpen analytic abilities, improve skills in reading and writing complex prose, and develop greater knowledge about human civilizations in general, and American civilization in particular.
