Mancuso leads sketching workshop on campus

A one-day sketching workshop led by artist and former Thiel College faculty member William J. Mancuso drew a full group of participants to the Daniel and Dorothy Spence Academic Center on Saturday, June 7. The event invited attendees to explore sketching as a mindful and enjoyable way to observe the world around them.

Mancuso, who taught at Thiel for nine years, guided the group through a series of exercises using pen, watercolor, and water-soluble pencil. With an emphasis on the process rather than the product, participants were encouraged to sketch freely and attentively. Informal discussions touched on perspective, composition, and color theory.

Each attendee received a high-quality sketching kit.

One participant remarked, “I loved the workshop. Bill Mancuso is a very good teacher and put together exercises that led everyone into the elements of sketching and working with watercolors. I was sort of weary since I know I can’t sketch anything very well at all! But the exercises were simple and very effective—and there’s even ‘homework’ to keep practicing. The materials were top notch, and I especially love the water brush.”

Mancuso holds degrees from SUNY College at Brockport and the University at Buffalo, and his work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, including The Pleasures of Sketching, his 2023 solo show at the Weyers-Sampson Art Gallery.

PA students participate in emergency response training session hosted at Thiel

Thiel College recently hosted a multi-agency active shooter response training coordinated by the Greenville Fire Department and facilitated by the LSU-NCBRT/Academy of Counter-Terrorism Education. The large-scale simulation brought together first responders from Mercer, Crawford, Beaver, and Erie counties—including fire, EMS, police, and 911 dispatchers—to improve communication and coordination during mass casualty incidents.

Physician assistant students from Thiel College played a vital role in the training by acting as victims during the live simulation, which included realistic elements such as simulated gunfire and injury scenarios. Their participation helped emergency personnel practice patient care and scene management in high-stress environments.

Email signatures, brand resources, and a job request form are all available online. A Dropbox folder has been set up with instructions and the materials necessary to create new email signatures. Employees can find other Thiel College-branded resources including letterhead, logos and PowerPoint slides in the same folder.
