Speech-Language Pathology professor, graduate student present at ASHA national conference

Thiel College Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology student Rebekah Ladaika ’23 M.S.’24 and Associate Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders Julie Kobak presented during the 2023 American Speech-Language Hearing Association national conference in Boston in November.

Campus community invited to gather at Christmas luncheon

President Susan Traverso, Ph.D. invites the entire campus community for the annual faculty and staff Christmas luncheon at noon Thursday, December 14 in the Lutheran Heritage Room in the Howard Miller Student Center.

AVI is sponsoring the luncheon at no cost to the institution. Please RSVP so there is an accurate count to prepare for the luncheon.

End of semester theatre updates

Anyone who is interested but missed auditions this semester can audition for the spring production of The Awesome 80s Prom by Ken Davenport and the Class of '89 at 7 p.m. January 22 in the Robinson Theater. 

Alpha Psi Omega Presents All in the Timing by David Ives

The Physician's Assistant Program is in need of volunteers to play “standardized patients.”

Alumni speak to women’s basketball team

Cindy Bynum ’88, Barry Oman ’74 and Linda (Dean) Oman ’75 spoke to the women’s basketball team in October.

Bynum spoke of her Thiel journey and her career following graduation. She led the women in several drills while attending practice. She worked for the IRS for many years and now is a business owner at C and J Financial Foundations. She is co-owner with James Carter ’95. Bynum scored more than 1,000 points and had more than 1,000 rebounds and was inducted into the Thiel Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000. 

Barry and Linda Oman also visited with the women’s team. Barry played football for Thiel and is a 2006 Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee. Linda played basketball and was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 1992.

Phi Theta Phi fundraising nears $26,000

Phi Theta Phi completed its walk to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh on Saturday and has raised about $26,000 with several committments still outstanding organizers are still closing in on their $30,000 goal.

Members of the fraternity will be in Pittsburgh and appear on CBS affiliate KDKA to present the money raised.

Donations can still be made online.

Tomcat Tributes recognize the teamwork Thiel College employees exhibit each day. Employees can nominate co-workers for recognition in four categories (Random Act of Kindness, Going the Extra Mile, Had a Great Idea, Just Because).

Mindfulness and Meditation

David Johnson Memorial Chapel

Mindfulness with Pastor Brian Riddle ’07 is a variety of stretching, movement, and meditation designed to promote harmony between your body and mind, so that you may heal and grow in all the areas of your life. It is non-religious, and helpful whether you are a beginner or an experienced practitioner. It will be held every Wednesday when classes are in session.
