Thiel College is gearing up for its highly anticipated homecoming celebration, “Tommy-Pa-Looza,” scheduled from September 28 to October 1.

Thiel College hosting Presidents’ Tree Walk as part of statewide forestry appreciation event

As part of Walk in Penn’s Woods, a statewide coordinated event on the first Sunday in October, Thiel College will host a walk through campus to recognize the trees on campus that have been dedicated to each of the College’s presidents at 2 p.m. Oct. 1.

Participants in the Thiel College retirement plan can meet with independent Retirement Plan Advisor, Jack Ryan from HB Retirement, will be on campus at Thiel for individual meetings on Wednesday, October 4. Ryan is available to support retirement planning needs through conference calls and virtual meetings as well. His office hours can be selected below.

Public Safety Note

A copy of the 2022 Annual Security/Fire Safety Report is available for viewing on the College’s website.

Once on the Public Safety site above, scroll down and select the 2022 Annual Security report to view.

The purpose of this report is to equip you with the information you need to stay safe while at Thiel College. We encourage members of the College community to use this report as a guide for safe practices on and off campus. The Public Safety Department will provide a paper copy of the Annual Security/Fire Report free upon request. You can request this the following ways; e-mailing the Chief of Police/Director of Public Safety at dbish@thiel.edu, by calling ext. 2222 and requesting the report, or requesting in person at the Public Safety office on the second floor of the Howard Miller Student Center.

Mindfulness and Meditation
Sept. 27 from 6–7 p.m.
David Johnson Memorial Chapel

Mindfulness with Pastor Brian Riddle ’07 is a variety of stretching, movement, and meditation designed to promote harmony between your body and mind, so that you may heal and grow in all the areas of your life. It is non-religious, and helpful whether you are a beginner or an experienced practitioner. It will be held every Wednesday when classes are in session.

Common Hour: Career Conversations

Alumni panelists Dr. Brittany (Gzikowski) Mears ’07 (psychology), Jesse Sealand ’17 (actuarial studies/mathematics), and Alex Yoder ’16 (English-writing) will share their Thiel story and talk about making the transition from college to work. Once the panel is over, guests are invited to stick around for some appetizers and conversation.

Homecoming: Thiel National Spirit Day

Students, faculty and staff members will gather at 12:40 p.m. outside the TC Cafe for a group photo in Thiel gear. That photo will be shared as alumni and friends from around the country participate in Thiel Spirit Day.

Gallery Talk: Marlin Casker ’60

Alumnus Marlin Casker ’60 has gifted the college more than 200 fine art prints. On display will be highlights from this collection. Casker will give a gallery talk on his personal experience of building a private collection.

Presidents Tree Walk
Oct. 1 from 2-4 p.m.
Campus

Thiel College has had 20 presidents since it was founded in 1866. Trees pay tribute to each president. In addition, the State Champion Sassafras is located on the Thiel campus. We will walk about one mile to view and discuss these trees. We will also learn some of the history of Thiel College and recent efforts to establish an arboretum on campus. Terrain is easy. We will be on sidewalks, and the walk will be ADA-accessible.

This walk accommodates strollers and wheelchairs; however, it is not considered appropriate for pets.
