Looking back at Welcome Weekend

First-year students arrived on August 26 and moved in to their rooms. Activities were planned through out the day including lunch on the lawn outside the Howard Miller Student Center, meetings with faculty and advisors and a headphone disco. On Sunday, first-year students delivered bags to the community for the annual food drive and played kickball against the faculty and the rest sophmores, juniors and seniors moved in.

The food drive collected nearly two tons of food this year bringing the total since the event’s inception in 2018 to more than 10 tons.

Students in the First-Year Seminar courses gathered 3,502 pounds of food from Greenville area. Staff from the Good Shepherd and Salvation Army food pantries picked up the donations on Wednesday.

Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College Greg Q. Butcher, Ph.D. sent an email to campus with an update and a note of gratitude to Kristin Carlson, Ph.D. for organizing the drive this year, and the FYS instructors and peer mentors for their work shepherding the students over the past couple of days.

New online phone directory available for print

The phone directory is available for print on-demand.

It is a significant update to our college directory services that aligns with the College’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. The print on-demand feature ensures real-time accuracy and easy accessibility.

The online directory will always be the most current source of information, but there are instances when having a physical directory is invaluable, whether it’s for personal preferences, ease of use, or as a backup when technology might not be readily available.

Employee headshots are September 26

New employee headshots will be taken from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26 in the Rudisill Room of the Howard Miller Student Center.

New employees should make arrangements to attend this sitting. No reservations are necessary. Photos will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

Any employee wishing to update their photo for web directory can also have retakes done that day.

Opening Convocation is first Common Hour event of year

Employees are invited to line Brother Martin’s Walk at 11 a.m. Thursday to cheer on our first-year and new students as they march to Opening Convocation in the William A. Passavant Memorial Center.

Thursday's Opening Convocation is a celebration of our students' induction into a community of scholars, joining the ranks of other significant campus events like the Academic Honors Convocation and Commencement Exercises. It's a moment that signifies the beginning of an incredible academic journey.

A treasured walk among the trees: One of the most treasured traditions at Thiel College is the symbolic march along Brother Martin's Walk. This pathway, lined with trees, holds immense significance as it marks the first of the two times our students will take this march together—first during the Opening Convocation and later during their Commencement Exercises.
