The Kappa Sigma chapter at Thiel College has been awarded a Kappa Sigma Founders’ Award of Chapter Excellence as one of the fraternity’s top chapters in North America and one of the members of the Thiel organization was singled out as a top member in the area at the organization’s leadership conference in Denver, Colo.

The All-Campus Retreat is from 1–4 p.m. Tuesday, August 16 in the Lutheran Heritage Room of the Howard Miller Student Center to celebrate the milestone years of service and welcome new members of the campus community.
The retreat will focus on the Thiel 2026 strategic plan with special attention on The Tomcat Way. Updates on enrollment, summer projects and the campaign will also be included. It is expected that all faculty and staff will attend the campus retreat.
Following the retreat from 4–7 p.m. will be a picnic for all faculty and staff and their families on the lawn at HMSC.
Please take a minute to complete the RSVP form so there is an accurate count for attendance at the retreat and the picnic.
Full campus involvement in the retreat is important to kick off the new academic year and advance the Thiel 2026 strategic plan.
A photographer from Leary Studios will be in the Friends of Art Lounge in the Howard Miller Student Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 16 for new or updated employee headshots.

Thiel College community members joined together to wish Assistant Director for Digital Engagement Mike McElroy farewell on Aug. 3. After nearly eight years with Thiel College he took a position at another institution.

The Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corp stopped at Thiel on Sunday and spent two days rehearsing on campus prior to their performance at the Lake Erie Fanfare in Edinboro, Pa. on Monday evening.


About 40 prospective students and their family members visited campus on Tuesday for the final BBQ visit day of the summer.

Upcoming COVID clinic
Walberg Family Pharmacy will be on campus to administer COVID Vaccine from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 23 in Weyers Lounge in the Howard Miller Student Center. Flu shots with COVID Boosters will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 6 also in Weyers Lounge.

Parking lot closures
Due to line painting, the following parking lots will be closed for a couple hours in the morning of Friday, Aug. 12. Those lots are as follows:
Summer dining hours
This summer AVI will have the dining hall open for lunch Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 m. On a daily basis, the salad bar line will be open with half the line supplied with salad items and the other half as a deli station. One hot station will also be open daily with other stations available during summer camps, conferences, and other special events. All employees are welcome to visit the dining hall for lunch at a discounted rate of $5.90.
If an employee receives a meal plan as part of their employment, those meal plans are only valid during the fall and spring undergraduate semesters at this point.
