On Friday, Sept. 10, members of the Thiel College fraternity Kappa Sigma took part in a symbolic walk at Greenville’s Plimpton Graul Amphitheater in Riverside Park in memory of the first responders who perished in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Staff members gathered Tuesday for a campus-wide discussion of including the Tomcat Way, the College’s new developmental model for student success, into their dealings with students and their student-workers.
Faculty members met last week to discuss the Tomcat Way.
The next TNT is an online meeting is at noon Tuesday, Oct. 5.

The Rite Aid Flu Shot Clinic is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 21 in the Rudisill Room of the Howard Miller Student Center.
Anyone wishing to participate in the clinic should register through the online signup and bring a copy of his or her insurance card to present to the Rite Aid representative. BCBS Highmark insurance will cover 100% of the cost of the flu shot. Deductibles will not apply. Employees with other insurance should check with their provider to see if the shot will be covered.

Saturday, Nov. 20 has been designated by the environmental group One Tree Planted as Pennsylvania’s tree planting day.
Professor of Biology Fatimata Palé, Ph.D. is hoping to put together a team of students, employees to participate in the state’s tree planting event.
One Tree Planted has planted trees in more than a dozen US states, across three Canadian provinces, and in Mexico. Their projects restore forests in the wake of major wildfires like those in Paradise, California; repair damage caused by industry and resource extraction; and even support the endangered Southern Resident Orca of the Pacific Northwest.

The American Chemical Society Student Affiliates on campus is hosting a speaker presentation at 6 p.m. Oct. 6 in Bly Hall. The speaker is Director of the University of Pittsburgh McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine William Wagner, Ph.D. 
He is a distinguished professor of Surgery, Chemical Engineering, and Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh. Recently Dr. Wagner received the 2021 Founder’s Award from the Society for Biomaterials and elected fellow in the International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering. His research lab specializes in cardiovascular engineering with focuses on medical device biocompatibility, tissue engineering, and imaging.
The McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine is a research institute partnered with the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. McGowan Institute scientific and clinical researchers focus on advancements in tissue engineering, cellular therapies, and artificial and biohybrid organ devices. The institute also provides education and training in regenerative medicine to the scientific and clinical communities.

Celebration of Life event for Henry Barton is Sept. 18
The widow of Professor Emeritus of Environmental Science Henry Barton, D.A. is hosting a celebration of life event at 3 p.m. Sept. 18 in the Lutheran Heritage Room. Barton taught at Thiel College from 1979 to 2011 and passed away on September 21, 2020.

Communications collateral
Employees should update the logos used on institutional materials, including email signatures, letterhead, PowerPoint slides, etc.
Thiel College has used the shield and wordmark combination as the official institutional logo for more than a year. They are the only approved logo for academic co-curricular and institutional use. Additional athletic logo packages are also available.
Email signatures, brand resources, and a job request form are all available online. A Dropbox folder has been set up with instructions and the materials necessary to create new email signatures. Employees can find other Thiel College-branded resources including letterhead, logos and PowerPoint slides in the same folder.
Thiel College community members who need help with communications and marketing initiatives and collateral can now request those services with a job form. The request form is available on the communications and marketing webpage or linked directly below.
