The Thiel College Student Life Department has hired 19 students as Peer Mentors for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Thiel homepage updated

The Thiel College homepage was refreshed with larger, more vibrant images. The page layout was adjusted to showcase the College's partnerships, the campus tour and campus news.

The links important to employees and students remain on the homepage (webmail, Moodle, The Hub, etc.) but were moved to the bottom of the page.

All-Campus retreat and picnic

The all-campus retreat begins at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 20. A celebratory luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. where faculty and staff will be recognized for 5- and 10-year service anniversaries. 

The annual employee, family and retiree picnic will follow from 4–7 p.m on the campus lawn and Howard Miller Student Center terrace.

The College provides table service, beverages, main entree and side dishes. Guests are asked to bring a dessert to share and lawn chairs and blankets.

RSVP to the Office of Special Events by August 14.

Common Hour schedule released

In its second year, the Common Hour will run from 11a.m. to noon Thursdays throughout both semesters except for Opening Convocation, which begins at 11:15 a.m. on Aug. 29. According to Vice President for Student Life Mike McKinney '02, feedback from the first year of the program, the final Thursday of each month is being planned by the Student Activities Office and will have more of a social emphasis. 

Print copies of the schedule will be available during the campus retreat on Aug. 20.

Student News

The summer edition of The Bell is out.

The summer special edition of The Bell contains stories on the ways students and alumni leveraged their internship experiences. Some used the opportunity to gain valuable experience, some used it as an audition for an employer while some strengthened their candidacy for graduate school.

Tomcat Tributes

Tomcat Tributes recognize the teamwork Thiel College employees exhibit each day. Employees can nominate co-workers for recognition in four categories (Random Act of Kindness, Going the Extra Mile, Had a Great Idea, Just Because).

Office of Communications and Marketing Essentials

Email signatures, brand resources, and a job request form are all available online. A Dropbox folder has been set up with instructions and the materials necessary to create new email signatures. Employees can find other Thiel College-branded resources including letterhead, logos and PowerPoint slides in the same folder.

Thiel College community members who need help with communications and marketing initiatives and collateral can now request those services with a job form. The request form is available on the communications and marketing webpage or linked directly below.

Healthy slow cooker recipe

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork with Pineapple BBQ Sauce

Serves eight with serving size ½ cup

1 (2 lbs) Pork Tenderloin
1 1/3 cup sugar-free BBQ sauce or low sugar BBQ sauce
1 cup crushed no sugar added pineapple with juice
2 small gloves of garlic-minced
1 small onion, diced

Put all ingredients in a slow cooker and cook on high for 8 hours.
Shred the meat with 2 forks. Serve on lettuce leaf or low carb wrap for low carb option.

Community Events

How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying
July 26–28
William Robinson Theater

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July  26 and Saturday, July and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 28.

Adult tickets are $15, seniors are $12 (anyone over 60), and children tickets are available at $10 each, for those age four and over, including high school and college students (with ID). Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door.

LIFE Center Ribbon Cutting

The Thiel College community is invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the LIFE Center, 17 6th Ave, located behind Country Fair.  The center will provide programming and fellowship for the Greater Greenville Area.

The annual chicken BBQ to raise money for the Kiwanis Club service projects is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 9. For tickets, contact Mario Marini ’91 on the second floor of Roth Hall or call ext. 2022.

Cost is $10 and includes half a chicken, baked potato, applesauce, roll and beverage.
