Thiel Biology Professor presents student-faculty collaboration at international conference

Professor of Biology Michael Balas, Ph. D., presented the collaborative research conducted with four biology majors at the 2018 Joint Annual Meeting of the Entomological Society of America and Entomological Society of Canada in Vancouver, BC, Canada on November 13, 2018.

Thiel College fraternity appearing on Pittsburgh TV after raising $54,234 for Children’s Hospital

Phi Theta Phi Walk-A-Thon chair Vincent Mion ’19, next year’s walk chair Matt O’Connor ’20 and brothers Nathaniel Hill ’20, Alex Pollock ’21 and Nick Mott ’21 will appear on Pittsburgh television station KDKA’s broadcast of its telethon for Children’s Hospital to present a check for the $54,234 they raised with this past weekend’s walk.

Dome season kicked off with Winter Fest

Thiel College celebrated its ninth annual community festival, Winter Fest, in the Rissell-Schreyer Dome on Friday, Dec. 7.

The Rissell-Schreyer Dome is open for community access during the winter and spring months. Dome access is free for community members wishing to use the facility to walk. Access for walkers is Monday through Friday, from 8-11 a.m. The Dome closes during all school breaks and during athletic practices.

The Rissell-Schreyer Dome is available for rental. Contact Austin Sleek at 724-589-2019 for more information.

Greenville Kiwanis selling discount dining cards

Mario Marini ’91 is selling the 2019 Kiwanis Club of Greenville Dining Card. The card costs $25. The card is worth $700 in discounts and is accepted at 45 restaurants in the region.

Deadline is Friday to set up United Way contributions

Employees are asked to consider donating to the Hermitage chapter of the United Way. Campus campaign coordinators Martin Black, David Miller ’61 and Morgan Steiner ’16 are striving to top last year’s Thiel College employee United Way participation rate of 16 percent. The United Way has given internships to several Thiel students. Also, Instructional Technology Specialist and A/V Coordinator Joe Pouliot ’17 won a cash award for a promotional video he made for the United Way.

Employees should have recently received a pledge form in their mailbox. Complete and return it to Kim Braden ’01 in Human Resources. The deadline is Friday.

Martin Luther King Jr. award nominees sought

Thiel College will be hosting its Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21 in the Lutheran Heritage Room of the Howard Miller Student Center. The theme is “The Celebration of Mindfulness, Love, and Kindness.” Nominees for the following awards are being accepted:

Deadline for all nominations submissions is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2.

Greatest Of All Time stress reliever

Peanut might not be the Greatest Of All Time, but he definitely is a goat. The baby goat helped students de-stress with visits on Monday and Tuesday before the start of finals.

Holiday hours updates

Campus Store

The Campus Store is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday. It will close Friday, Dec. 14 and reopen Jan. 9. The Campus Store is available online.

DocuCenter 

The DocuCenter will close at noon Thursday, Dec. 20. It will reopen at 7:30 a.m. Friday, Dec 21.

The DocuCenter will be closed Monday, Dec 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25. It will also be closed Monday, Dec. 31 and Tuesday, Jan 1

Office of Communications and Marketing Essentials

Email signatures, brand resources, job request form all available online

A Dropbox folder has been set up with instructions and the materials necessary to create new email signatures. Employees can find other Thiel College-branded resources including letterhead, logos and PowerPoint slides in the same folder.

Thiel College community members who need help with communications and marketing initiatives and collateral can now request those services with a job form. The request form is available on the communications and marketing webpage or linked directly below.

Personalized campus tour experiences are designed to fit the schedule of busy prospective students and their family. High school students will meet with a Thiel College admissions representative and learn more about Thiel’s academic programs.

Employee Christmas Party

Food, games caroling are all parts of the annual Thiel College Employee Christmas Party. Attendees should bring a non-perishable food item, which will be donated to the Good Shepherd Food Pantry.
