Professor of Painting and Curator of Art Sean McConnor, Assistant Professor of History Sheila Nowinski, Ph.D., and student Isabella Bungo ’19 recently wrapped up a 10-week artwork restoration and historical research project funded by a grant from the Greenville Neuromodulation Center Faculty/Student Research Institute at Thiel College, a leading liberal arts college in northwest Pennsylvania.

New video tour showcases campus

Tommy Tomcat leads viewers around campus including in-depth looks at the James Pedas Communication Center and the Haer Family Science and Arts Connector.

Thiel garden bearing fruits of labor

Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College Liz Frombgen, Ph.D., tends to the tomato plants in the Thiel College community garden. The garden is in its first year and is located on lower campus.

Gateway work underway; detour in place to reach parking lots

Construction of the new Gateway Entrance Signs has begun and the contractor is beginning the work on the new crosswalk portion across the entrance to Amelia Earhart Drive.

While this work is being completed the Amelia Earhart Drive entrance will be closed to vehicle traffic for 2–3 weeks while the new crosswalk pavers are being installed. Illustrated above is a detour path behind campus that can be used to access the football field and Roth Hall lots. Drivers should watch their speed because parts of the detour are narrow with curves that are difficult to see around.

American Chemical Society update

After careful consideration, Thiel College will not offer the American Chemical Society certificate after May 2019. However, students, alumni, faculty members, staff and friends of the College should know that Thiel College remains committed to offering high-quality chemistry and biochemistry degree programs that prepare students for success in competitive graduate programs and dynamic careers in science-related fields.

Thiel community has connections to GACT production

The Greenville Area Community Theater's production of Annie opens Friday at 7:30 p.m. at William Robinson Theater.

Several members of the Thiel community are involved with the production.

Professor of Biology Mike Balas, Ph.D., and his daughter, Sydney Balas; Hannah McKinney, the daughter of Vice President for Student Life, Dean of Students and Title IX Co-coordinator Mike McKinney ’02; and Barbara Long-Cooper ’98 are involved in the production.

RSVP for the employee picnic

The Thiel College employee picnic is at 5 p.m. Aug. 21 on the Howard Miller Student Center terrace and lawn.

The picnic includes food (attendees should bring a dessert to share, the College is providing table service, beverages, main entree and side dishes). Activities and prizes for children will be furnished. Retirees and their families will have reserved seating at picnic tables. Attendees are entered in a door prize drawing. The winner must be present to receive prize.

Clarissa Arbuckle’11 and her husband celebrated the birth of their son, Rhett Gerald Arbuckle, on July 19. He weighed 9 lbs., 4oz. and was 22 inches long.

HB Retirement Planning meeting

Retirement plan financial advisors, William Ferguson and Jack Ryan, from HB Retirement, will be available for one-on-one meetings with Thiel employees on Aug.17 and 30. 

Spouses are invited. Employees can also bring statements from other investment accounts to the meeting, too. 

Employee Day at Waldameer Park and discount code

Faculty and staff can get admission to Waldameer’s amusement and water park for $37 per person and an all-you-can-eat picnic buffet on Aug. 26.

To purchase tickets, stop by the Student Life Office. 

Thiel College employees are also eligible for a special online discount to the park they can use anytime. Follow the link and activate the orange promotional button in the top righthand corner and enter the code THIEL18 (case and space sensitive) when ordering tickets online. The discount saves $4 off a regular combination pass and $2 off a children’s pass.

Kiwanis Annual Chicken BBQ

The annual chicken BBQ to raise money for the Kiwanis Club service projects is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 8. Cost is $10 and includes half a chicken, baked potato, applesauce, roll and beverage.

Color Me Happy 5K Race, Roll & Stroll
Aug. 10 starting at 9:30 a.m.
339 East Jamestown Road

Enter the second annual 5K race hosted by St. Paul’s by July 16 to get the early registration discount ($15 per runner) and before July 26 to receive an official Color Me Happy t-shirt. Fee after early registration period is $20 per runner which includes a race map, runner’s bib and a race t-shirt.
