On Dec. 1, Brittany DeCarmine ’18 flew to Plano, Texas for a two-day interview with JCPenney Corporation. DeCarmine, a 2014 Sharpsville High School graduate from Jackson Center, Pa., is a history and business double major. JCPenney liked DeCarmine’s unique academic background when they selected her as their top candidate out of 1,600 applicants. DeCarmine was the only interview finalist from an institution with less than 10,000 students.
“They liked the fact that I had a history background because it allows me to analyze data and trends differently along with my ability to conduct research,” DeCarmine said.
The interview process consisted of multiple interviews, presenting a strength, weakness, opportunity and threats analysis, and group collaboration. DeCarmine worked with both Assistant Director of the Career Development Center Clarissa S. Arbuckle ’11 and Associate Dean of Career Development Martin Black, her mentor Reference Librarian for Instruction Tressa Snyder, and Assistant Professor of Business Administration and Accounting Karen Shaffer. DeCarmine began utilizing the center as a freshman and her achievement is a testament to the advantages of getting involved with the Career Development Center early, Arbuckle said. DeCarmine will move to Plano this summer to begin her internship working alongside top merchandisers of the company.
