General Manager of RTS Companies Inc. Don Achenbach ’77 discussed his business experiences and his family's connection to Thiel College in the third senior business seminar for Professor David Miller, M.B.A. ’61 on Jan. 27.
“Mr. Achenbach’s presentation was exceptional, and I found it to be very encouraging. He spoke about his journey to get where he is today and gave us many useful tips for our future careers. Mr. Achenbach graduated from Thiel College in 1977. He is one out of around 20 members of his family to graduate from Thiel College, and you can see his sense of admiration for the College.” – Megan Ely ’16
“Don was a 1977 graduate from Thiel College and has 25 Thiel alumni in his family. He is very proud of his Thiel education, which I appreciated because it reminds me how great of an education I’ve received over the past four years.” – Dawn Pastorius ’16
“I hope to live by the quote Don said at the end of his presentation, ‘Why waste heartbeats on something you are not passionate about?’ Don made me realize that attending Thiel and receiving a liberal arts degree was an important step towards a lifetime of success.” – Carlee Jones ’16
“Don Achenbach talked many times in his presentation about celebrating others, which is a concept that he came up with and continued throughout the years. Celebrating others means empowering and encouraging people so that they produce their best work. It is a team approach.” – Kristi Guritza ’16
“He told the class that he followed an incentive method that would ‘celebrate others to empower and encourage employees.’ This method was followed by the three T’s (tools, time and training): giving the employees the proper tools, a timetable to complete certain tasks and provide proper training on how to complete the task, not only efficiently but completed the right way.” – Garret Schweitzer ’16
Tomcat Tributes are designed to recognize the teamwork Thiel College employees exhibit each day. Employees can nominate co-workers for recognition in four categories (Random Act of Kindness, Going the Extra Mile, Had a Great Idea, Just Because).
