Thiel College hosted its first-ever Business Department and Haller Award Recipient Reunion on Aug. 7-8. A dinner was held Friday to open the weekend. A Prof. David Miller, M.B.A. '61 impersonation contest and an emotional speech by Miller topped a full list of events on Saturday. Miller started teaching at Thiel College in 1963 and is the longest-tenured professor in the College's history.

Assistant Professor of Sociology Jared Hanneman, Ph.D. (left) and Associate Professor of Neuroscience and Neuroscience Department Chair Greg Butcher, Ph.D. were among the faculty who participated in last week's Hodge Institute.
Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College Lynn Franken, Ph.D., hosted a Hodge Institute for Teaching and Learning last Thursday. The day was devoted to strategic planning for academic programs. Faculty representatives from all academic departments engaged in individual and group goal-setting exercises. Participants discussed their goals for academic programming and prioritized these goals. Although the Hodge Institute was a great beginning to the academic strategic planning process, faculty will continue the strategic planning process in two faculty fora to be held this academic year.

President Troy D. VanAken, Ph.D., gave updates and a “State of the College.” Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College Lynn Franken, Ph.D., Vice President of Student Life Mike McKinney, M.S.Ed. '02, Chief Information Officer Kurt Ashley, M.B.A., Director of Athletics Jack Leipheimer '74 and Director of Facilities Mike Shultz also gave brief updates from their departments and recognized new employees. Special guest Andrew Roth, Ph.D., President Emeritus of Notre Dame College, discussed how the entire campus community can aid in student recruitment.
Following the morning updates were breakout sessions, lunch, departmental meetings and campus improvement tours. The employee family picnic completed the day.
