The Reverend Elizabeth A. Eaton, M.Div., the first female presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) received an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree and sent off Thiel College's 238 graduates Sunday with a moving address that compelled them to "make the world a better place."

The first Dr. Edwin Hodge Jr. Institute for Teaching and Learning at Thiel College began in 2012. This year's edition started Monday with the assessment phase. The assessment phase ends today. Curriculum development through the Institute continues with sections Thursday and Friday and sessions next week. This initiative is focused on fostering highly engaged student learning in seminar settings.

The National Society of Leadership and Success held its spring induction on April 24. Several faculty and staff members were recognized along with the 129 students who were inducted into the organization. Professors Jared Johnson and David Miller '61 and Director of Student Health Services Christine Cianci were given Honorary Membership awards. Professors David Buck, Ellen Lippert and Cynthia Kreisel were given Excellence in Teaching awards, and Director of Bands, Instructor of Music/Performing Arts Andrew Erb, Production Engineer Mike McElroy and Professor of Psychology, Associate Academic Dean Jennifer Griffin were given Excellence in Service to Students awards.
Professor Karen Shaffer delivered the keynote address.
Students Alessandra Corradi '18, Maryanne Elder '15, Keonna Fuqua '17, Sam Sesti '18, Charles Thomas '15, Aaron Wakley '15 and Kelsey Wise '15 were given National Engaged Leaders awards.
