GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College women’s soccer assistant coach Josie Madden has been selected to attend the 2020 NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar.

The seminar will take place Feb. 5-7 at the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis.

The ELS is an annual professional development event that provides effective leadership, educational and transitional programming for more than 200 current graduate assistants and interns from NCAA member institutions, conference offices and affiliate organizations. The three-day program educates, develops and connects selected participants, and can increase the likelihood for career progression within collegiate athletics.

“We are pleased that Josie was selected to attend the Emerging Leaders Seminar,” Thiel College Director of Athletics Amy Schafer said. “Josie has been a great addition to our staff, and the ELS will provide her with career development and networking opportunities.”

Madden was hired at Thiel College in August of 2019. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Washington & Jefferson College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in entrepreneurial studies.

Madden was a four-time All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference selection in women’s soccer at W&J, including First Team honors following the 2016 season. She was a team captain in 2017 and was twice named the team’s MVP.

A College Sports Information Director’s of America Academic All-District First Team selection in 2017, Madden was named to the PAC Fall Academic Honor Roll three times during her career. A native of Elizabeth, Pa., Madden appeared in 70 games for the Presidents. She recorded 68 points in her career on 20 goals and 28 assists.

Madden served as an intern for the PAC in the Spring of 2018. In her role, she worked with other interns to assist in planning and logistics of multiple Division III events, including league championships. She helped maintain the conference’s social media presence on Twitter while researching and updating statistical information for in-season sports, as well as archived data for women’s soccer.

Madden helped coach a Tomcats team that won six games in 2019, the most for the program since 2014. She also coached two players who earned all-conference accolades.
