Thiel College to host opening and exhibition by ceramic artist Christian Kuharik

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College will host an opening for Mercer County ceramic artist Christian Kuharik, M.F.A., at the Weyers-Sampson Gallery from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Kuharik’s work will remain on display through Oct. 16. Gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1-4:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.

Kuharik was born and raised in western Pa. and resides in Mercer. He has been working as an artist using clay as his primary medium of expression for the last 19 years. He completed his undergraduate studies at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 1998 and received his M.F.A. from West Virginia University in 2003. Kuharik teaches at Pennsylvania State University’s Shenango campus. He has coordinated the ceramics department at the Shenango campus since 2005. He most recently opened Circle K Studios in Sharon. Kuharik teaches pottery and art classes and rents space to other artists at Circle K Studios.

Kuharik’s work has been exhibited in one-person shows throughout the eastern U.S., including the Washington Street Gallery in Lewisburg, W.Va.; The VACI Gallery at the Chautauqua Institution, Chautauqua, N.Y.; and in the BE Gallery in Pittsburgh.

Christian has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors including The Glass Grower’s Gallery award in 1998. He was awarded the West Virginia University’s GEO Grant for study abroad in China in 2001—where he studied Chinese ceramics and culture for two months.
