Thiel College President Troy VanAken recognizes employee service milestones

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College President Troy VanAken recognized 34 Thiel College employees for reaching significant employment milestones with the College recently.

Professor of Economics and Business Administration and Norman P. Mortensen Chair of Economics David Miller highlighted the group by being recognized for his 50 years at Thiel College. Miller, a 1961 graduate of Thiel, was hired in 1963 and has been with the College ever since. He is the longest serving tenured faculty in Thiel's 148-year history.

President VanAken said, “Professor Miller is one of those rare individuals who comes along once in a lifetime, and decades of Thiel College students have enjoyed great success as a result of the many gifts he has bestowed upon this institution.”

Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science Judith Newton and Periodical, Reference and Acquisitions Librarian Lida Mason were honored for their 40 years of service. Director of Housekeeping Marla Barr and Executive Director of Financial Aid Cynthia Farrell were acknowledged for reaching the 35-year plateau, while Professor of Religion and Director of the Dietrich Honors Institute Curtis Thompson (30 years) and Adjunct Professor of Music Kathryn Gray (25 years) and Academic Competencies Enhancement Specialist Diane Donnelly (25 years) rounded out the list of employees who had reached the silver anniversary or beyond.

The 34 employees represent more than 490 years of combined experience at Thiel College.
