GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College kicked off Tuesday a three-day recognition of student achievement with an Academic Honors Convocation celebration that was developed to accommodate social distancing and limits on large-group gatherings and still provide the in-person experience of the annual ceremony.

In lieu of the gathering that usually welcomes the campus community, students and their friends and family to the William A. Passavant Memorial Center, this year’s Academic Honors Convocation ceremony was in the Friends of Art Lounge in the Howard Miller Student Center. First-year and sophomore students received certificates in recognition of their academic achievements from 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, March 2. Juniors and seniors will receive theirs at the same time on Wednesday, March 3.

Graduate students and members of Alpha Chi will be recognized at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 4. Alpha Chi is a coeducational society whose purpose is to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college students, and to honor those who achieve such distinction. Students must be in the top 5 percent of the junior class or the top 10 percent of the senior class to become members at Thiel College.

President Susan Traverso, Ph.D., and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College Elizabeth Frombgen, Ph.D., are presenting each student with a certificate and posing for a photo.

Any student unable to pick up their certificate during the times scheduled may do so on Thursday, March 4.
