GREENVILLE, Pa.—Megan Everett ’24, a recent graduate of Thiel College, has been recognized for her innovative contributions to environmental sustainability through her independent study.
Everett, who earned her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Thiel College in May, presented her research to both the Greenville Town Council and the Thiel community at the annual campus-wide research symposium earlier this year.
Everett, originally from Parma Heights, Ohio, graduated from Valley Forge High School in 2020. Her project focused on finding sustainable storm water management solutions that would benefit both Thiel College and the Greenville community. Collaborating closely with officials from both entities, Everett proposed practical solutions to mitigate standing water and flooding issues in the area.
Among her recommendations were the creation of a rain garden and the installation of rain barrels on underutilized properties owned by Thiel College. These initiatives aim to increase groundwater infiltration and reduce runoff, thus alleviating flooding and improving water management.
“My experience with the independent study was great,” Everett said. “I really enjoyed researching ways to better help the community and Thiel College with an issue they both were having. I learned a lot, and hopefully, this can be a way Thiel can get more involved with the community of Greenville.”
Everett’s proposals represent the continued dialogue between Thiel College and Greenville officials, exploring ways to implement her recommendations. This collaboration is part of Thiel College’s ongoing commitment to fostering a sustainable environment and strengthening its ties with the local community.
