GREENVILLE, Pa.—The highly anticipated "Take Down Cancer" wrestling match between Greenville High School and Reynolds High School is set for Wednesday, Jan. 8 at Thiel College's Beeghly Gymnasium. The match is the second in an anticipated series of athletic events to be hosted by Thiel College between the two local high schools.

On Oct. 18, the Greenville and Reynolds football teams played at Thiel College’s Alumni Stadium, with the Trojans defeating the Raiders, 20-6.

As the host team, Greenville will receive all revenue generated from the wrestling match, with a portion of proceeds designated to benefit Greenville’s Relay for Life Team. Thiel College will provide security for the match and will not charge either school district for use of its facilities.

Doors will open at Beeghly Gymnasium on Jan. 8 at 5 p.m. Junior high matches will begin at 5:30 p.m. with junior varsity and varsity matches to follow.

“We are excited to continue hosting Greenville-Reynolds contests at Thiel College,” said Jack Leipheimer ’74, Thiel College director of athletics. “We understand the importance of this strong traditional rivalry between Greenville and Reynolds, and we are pleased to welcome the community to our campus.”

Due to the anticipated popularity of the match, both schools decided to pre-sale a limited number of tickets, which will be available for purchase to the public at both high school offices. Tickets will go on sale at both schools on Monday, Dec. 16 at 8 a.m. Adult tickets are $4 and $2 for students. Greenville and Reynolds decided that ticket sales will be limited to four tickets per person per day, and no athletic passes will be honored for the wrestling match. If all pre-sale tickets are sold at both schools, tickets will not be sold at the door on Jan. 8.

The parking lot behind Thiel College’s Beeghly Gymnasium will be reserved for senior citizens and handicap parking. Passes for this lot will be available at both high school offices, where tickets are purchased, and must be displayed when parking in the lot. All other parking for the wrestling match will be at the Passavant Center lot.

Greenville Orthopedic Association, Inc., a long-time partner of the College and philanthropist of the local community, will continue to serve as sponsor for all Greenville-Reynolds contests held at Thiel College.

The Greenville-Reynolds rivalry began in the early 1960s after Reynolds School District opened its doors in 1960-61. Over the years, Greenville and Reynolds have met on the mat in regular dual matches, tournaments and district team championship matches. The Trojans and Raiders last wrestled against each other on Feb. 4, 2012 at the District 10 Team Championships. The last regular season dual match between the two teams was during the 2005-06 season.
