GREENVILLE, Pa.—The 45th annual Phi Theta Phi Fraternity Walk-a-thon for Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh's Free Care Fund is Dec. 5 and 6. Over the course of the event's history, Phi Theta Phi has raised more than $1.25 million for the fund. This year's goal is $35,000.

The Phi Theta Phi brothers will depart Greenville at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, walking through Mercer, Grove City, Slippery Rock and Butler, ending in Freeport at Trinity Lutheran Church. The second day will take them through Natrona Heights, Breckenridge, New Kensington, Arnold, Springdale, Cheswick, Harmar Township, Oakmont, Lawrenceville and finally Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.

The Free Care Fund at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation helps ensure that all children receive the medical care they need, and that no child from the tri-state area is denied care because of an inability to pay. In 2011, the Foundation contributed more than $18 million to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC in support of new hospital construction, research, clinical programs, medical education, and funds for Free Care.

The Phis will collect cash donations throughout the walk, but checks (made payable to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation) can be mailed to Phi Theta Phi Alumni Association, PO Box 365, Greenville, PA 16125. Online donations can be made at www.givetochildrens.org (click on “Donate Now” and “Designation – Other” and then type “Phi Walk.”).

The walk started with donation collection days in December in Conneaut Lake, Sharon, Mercer and Greenville.
