GREENVILLE, Pa.—In its sesquicentennial year, Thiel College will celebrate Homecoming 2016 with both new and traditional events for students, alumni, friends of the College and community members from Sept. 25 to Oct. 2.

In the week preceding Homecoming weekend, Thiel will sponsor a number of activities in anticipation of the celebrations. A Color Dash 5K will be held Sunday, Sept. 25 for all ages. The Color Dash—sponsored by ILSCO Extrusions, Inc.—is a family-friendly, untimed run or walk for people of all ages and abilities. Participants will be provided with a white T-shirt and will be sprayed with brightly-colored powders during the race.

Other celebrations include the National Thiel Spirit Day on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Alumni from around the country are encouraged to show their school spirit by wearing blue and gold or any Thiel branded clothing and posting photos of their outfits to social media with the hashtag #TC150.

At 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, St. Paul’s: A Continuing Care Community sponsors “Thiel History Time,” where Thiel College alumni will celebrate 150 years of Thiel history by sharing stories from past generations in the James Pedas Communication Center.

This year’s Homecoming theme is “Thiel: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.” Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30 and continues Saturday in the Weyers Lounge of the Howard Miller Student Center.

Friday’s events include the invite-only, formal Sesquicentennial Gala, a Blue-Gold Golf Outing, a student and alumni networking reception, and a student pep rally.

On Saturday, Oct. 1, attendees can enjoy alumni softball and baseball games, class reunions, and a groundbreaking ceremony for the College’s new science facility. The Tomcat Kids Zone will have activities for ages three to 12, and a tailgate lunch will be held before the football game. Alumni couples will share a special moment with a vow affirmation ceremony at 1 p.m. Saturday. The annual Homecoming parade will commence at 1:30 p.m. as the Thiel Tomcat Marching Pride and community partners make their way along Greenville’s Main Street to campus. This will be followed by the Homecoming football game at 3 p.m. as the Thiel College Tomcats play Washington & Jefferson College at Alumni Stadium.

“The Homecoming schedule of events provides many ways for alumni, friends of the College and the community to celebrate our sesquicentennial year with us,” Director of Alumni Relations Kelly Sanzari ’13 said. “This will be a great time of camaraderie as we remember 150 years of Thiel College and look to the years ahead.”
