GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College junior Nic Jones was recently named to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-America Division III Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
An Early Childhood Education major, Jones carries a 3.87 grade-point average. A six-semester Dean’s List student, he is his class vice president and a member of Lambda Sigma, Kappa Delta Pi and Chi Alpha Sigma honoraries.
Jones was named the Field MVP at the 2014 PAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, where he placed first in the high jump (2.08 meters) and second in the long jump (6.91 meters) and triple jump (13.82 meters). Jones qualified for the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, where he finished 10th in the high jump (6 feet, 9 inches).
Jones finished fourth in the high jump at the 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in March, earning All-American status with a jump of six feet, 8.25 inches. He was also named the MVP at the 2014 PAC Indoor Track & Field Championships after he won titles in the high jump (6 feet, 9 inches) and long jump (22 feet, 5.25 inches) and placed second in the triple jump (44 feet, 2 inches).
Jones’ Capital One Academic All-America Second Team selection comes after he was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Four Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country First Team in May.
