Former faculty member and alumnus appointed for his first term as a Thiel Trustee

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Gary J. Witosky ’79 H’24, a longtime faculty member, alumnus, administrator and supporter of Thiel College, will take on a new role as a member of the Board of Trustees in November.

Witosky initially came to the College as a student and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1979. He subsequently became a certified public accountant and a chartered global management accountant. He later earned a Master of Accountancy from Stetson University. Witosky worked extensively in the fields of public accounting and private industry for more than 20 years, concluding his public accounting career as an audit manager for Ernst & Young in Cleveland, Ohio. In the private sector, he was treasurer and corporate controller of Park Corporation, chief financial officer of American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc. in Detroit, Mich., and was president and chief operating officer of Colfor Manufacturing, Inc. in Ohio.

Witosky returned to the College as an adjunct professor of Business Administration and Accounting in 2002 following an invitation from David M. Miller ’61 H’20, his former professor and mentor at the College. In 2004, Witosky joined the College’s administration when he became interim vice president of finance, and later accepted the role of senior vice president from 2007-09. He rejoined the faculty in 2009, and in the same year, received the Service to Thiel Award from the Thiel Alumni Association. He became Chair of the Arthur McGonigal Department of Business Administration and Accounting in 2015, the first David M. Miller Endowed Chair of Accounting in 2016, and also served as Executive Director of the Haller Enterprise Institute. He was also recognized as Professor of the Year by the College in 2016, and in recognition of his service to the faculty, he was elected Professor Emeritus by the Thiel College Board of Trustees in 2023 and awarded an honorary doctorate of humane letters in 2024.

Apart from his professional accolades, Witosky has volunteered for the College’s Board of Associates, the Alumni Association, and as a member of the Thiel 2016 Capital Campaign Cabinet. Witosky and his wife, Kate, live in Chardon, Ohio, and have two adult children.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the oversight of Thiel College. The Board adopts rules, regulations and policies governing Thiel College and has authority over curricular development, use of property, development of facilities and fiscal and human resources management. The Board of Trustees meets formally three times a year on campus. Trustees usually serve three-year terms on the board.
