The endowed Dr. Carl Hoffman ’69 H’10 Chair of Biology honors a distinguished alumnus, trustee, healthcare executive, and philanthropist whose lifelong commitment has strengthened Thiel College and advanced science education.

A 1969 biology graduate of Thiel, Hoffman earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1974. He went on to build a successful career in healthcare, serving as President and CEO of PrimeCare Medical, Inc.

Hoffman’s dedication to Thiel spans decades. He has served on both the Alumni Board of Directors and the College’s Board of Trustees, including as chair of the Advancement Committee, and has been a strong supporter of Thiel’s Science Initiative.

As a founding member of Phi Theta Phi fraternity, Hoffman helped establish the fraternity’s 100-mile Walk-a-Thon to Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital, which has raised nearly $2 million for the Free Care Fund.

His philanthropy has supported scholarships, academic programs, the Dr. Carl ’69 H’10 & Theresa Hoffman Biology Wing in the Rhodehouse Science Building, and the endowed Chair in Biology that bears his name.

Hoffman was honored with the Haller Enterprise Institute Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2005 and received an honorary doctorate from Thiel in 2010.
