Director of the Career Development Center

Thiel College is searching for an exceptionally skilled and motivated individual to re-envision and implement an innovative, highly integrative, and technology enhanced Career Development Center.

The director will support the institution’s mission of empowering individuals to reach their full potential by creating a diverse and inclusive learning environment that ensures educational excellence, stimulates global awareness, and promotes ethical leadership.  The position reports to the Associate Academic Dean for Student Success.

Credentials/ Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education administration, college student development, counseling, human resources or related field strongly preferred.  Two to five years of experience in career counseling/development, student development, higher education, counseling, recruiting or human resources.

A portfolio that includes career counseling and vocational discernment; personal and professional development; budget management; demonstrated ability to build cooperative partnerships; ability to work with persons from culturally diverse background and promote inclusive practices in all aspects of one’s work; and a thorough understanding of liberal arts education and of the implications of liberal learning for today’s career paths.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with other offices in Academic Affairs and Student Life, members of the Alumni Board, and community partners to re-envision the Career Development Center.
  • Build institutional capacity through partnerships with staff and faculty members from all disciplines; provide these colleagues with training in career advising and current information on employment prospects; assist them in developing classroom and advising materials relevant to vocational discernment and job placement.
  • Manage the daily operation of the Career Development Center, including the supervision of student workers, to deliver relevant and effective career services for students at all levels.
  • Coordinate the Center’s marketing and communication, internal and external; Collaborate with Communications and Marketing to refine Thiel College’s Career Center website; implement campus-wide adoption of informational platforms such as College Central ®.
  • Partner with local, regional, and national prospects to provide the best possible internship/job shadowing possibilities for students, to increase on-campus recruiting by prospective employers, and to strengthen relationships between Thiel College and all entities with the capacity to create career opportunities for our students.
  • Provide on-site career planning assistance for students through individual appointments, research directives, and regular workshops.
