The Thiel College seeks an enthusiastic and highly capable individual to serve as an Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities. This is a tenure-track position. The
position begins August 15, 2020.
For 150 years, Thiel has honored its Lutheran heritage through its choral traditions. The ideal candidate will continue this tradition and also expand Thiel’s choral repertoire to include, for example, Hand Bells, gospel choir or other a cappella forms. In this and other ways, the choir director will provide vision and direction for the choirs, and assist the College in fulfilling its goals of fostering among all students an appreciation for the creative arts and sustaining a reputation for excellence in choral performance.
The Director of Choral Activities conducts the Thiel Choir and the Thiel College Chamber Singers. Additional activities include teaching courses, private instruction in voice, and leading ensemble participation during convocations and campus special events. The individual will be expected to work closely with Admissions and actively recruit students to the College through effective outreach and program development.
In addition to campus performances, the Choral Director will organize opportunities for the choirs to travel during Spring break or the May term. The preferred candidate must have an advanced degree in Music (choral conducting preferred), and at least two years of successful choral direction experience, preferably in a secondary or post-secondary context. Also highly valued will be keyboard/choral accompanying skills; proven ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with colleagues; a record of successful recruiting, and evidence of scholarly or creative activities in choral performance.
