The Thiel College Department of Music and Theatre seeks an enthusiastic and highly capable individual to serve as the interim Director of Choral Activities for academic year 2019-2020. The position begins August 15, 2019.
For 150 years, Thiel has honored its Lutheran heritage through its choral traditions. The ideal candidate will continue this tradition and also expand Thiel’s choral repertoire to include, for example, gospel choir or other a cappella forms. In this and other ways, the choir director will provide vision and direction for the choirs, and assist the College in fulfilling its goals of fostering among all students an appreciation for the creative arts and sustaining a reputation for excellence in choral performance.
The Director of Choral Activities conducts the Thiel Choir, the Thiel College Chamber Singers, and the Thiel College Hand bell Ringers. Additional activities include teaching courses within the music minor and the core curriculum, private instruction in voice, and leading ensemble participation during convocations and campus special events. This individual also will actively recruit students to the institution and to the department, its courses of study, and its choirs.
The preferred candidate will have at least a Masters of Music in Choral Conducting, (Doctorate preferred), and two years of successful secondary or post-secondary experience as a director of choral ensembles. Also highly valued will be keyboard/choral accompanying skills; proven ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with music colleagues; a record of successful recruiting, and evidence of scholarly and creative activities in choral performance.
Interested applicants should send a letter of interest; curriculum vitae; graduate transcripts, a statement of teaching philosophy, and contact information for three professional references to firstname.lastname@example.org (preferred method) or to: Jennifer Clark, Director of Human Resources, Thiel College, 75 College Avenue, Greenville, PA 16125. A high quality video file of recent ensemble conducting may be required at a later date. Review of applications will begin immediately, and will continue until the position is filled.
