Director of Bands

Thiel College seeks talented, energetic, and highly motivated applicants for a full-time 10-month Director of Bands position.

The director is responsible for building, directing, and managing a robust instrumental music program at Thiel College, which includes opportunities for students to participate in marching band, pep band, concert band, and ensembles.  The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to lead music rehearsals, arrange music, write drill, and be an active recruiter for the Tomcat Marching Pride.


Build and direct a strong marching band, pep band, concert band, and ensembles.

  • Administration of a successful instrumental program, including repertoire, drill design and writing, rehearsals, performances, parades, summer band camp, budgeting, travel, facilities and equipment inventory.
  • Recruit undergraduate students while meeting established enrollment and retention goals.
  • Participation in the planning and execution of major admissions events.
  • Outreach to local schools and music educators.
  • Potential of teaching one 3-credit music course each semester (2 courses per academic year) or music lessons courses.
  • Participation and support of major student activities.
  • Oversight of band equipment, including the coordination of maintenance and storage of instruments, uniforms, and other equipment.
  • Recruitment and supervision of support staff and volunteers.


Bachelor’s in Music Education or related field (required), MMEd or MM (preferred), demonstrated success in teaching in the collegiate and/or public school settings, marching band, concert band and marching band drill design experience required.  Experience with student recruitment is also preferred.
