Assistant Professor - English

The English Department of Thiel College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in August 2020.

Ideal candidates will present teaching experience in composition and rhetoric and expertise in overseeing student writing.  The teaching assignment is 12 credits/semester across a variety of courses, including college writing, digital rhetoric, professional writing, creative writing, advanced composition, and courses in the Dietrich Honors Institute curriculum.  Thiel offers a highly personalized learning environment with small class sizes, especially in writing-intensive courses.  Candidates who can demonstrate  pedagogical practices that are inclusive of  students of diverse backgrounds and interests are encouraged to apply.  Experience working with first-generation students is especially important.    Additional responsibilities include student advising and mentoring, departmental service, and college-wide governance. Candidates should exhibit an appreciation of the liberal arts college tradition and a desire to strengthen the College’s professional and creative writing programs.   A Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition or related field is required

A dedicated passion for helping students reach their full potential in a supportive and inclusive environment is essential to this position.  While Thiel College gives highest priority to teaching effectiveness, the faculty member will be expected to remain current in the field through professional development opportunities such as attendance at related conferences, research, or other scholarly activities.
