Founders’ Day is Feb. 7

Please join the campus community as we celebrate Founders’ Day on Thursday, Feb. 7 and honor our distinguished colleagues and members of the Greenville community. Harvey and Uta Childs will receive the A. Louis and Barbara Thiel Distinguished Service Award and Dr. Bill Robinson, professor of performing arts will be awarded Professor of the Year. Additional faculty members to earn recognition are:
Dr. Christopher Stanisky, chemistry, Distinguished Service Award.
Dr. Mary Theresa Hall, English, Distinguished Teacher Award.
Dr. Dan Eppley, religion, Distinguished Scholar Award.
Kathryn Gray, music, Distinguished Adjunct Award.
Five staff awards will be presented during the ceremony. Receiving honors are:
Rhonda Laird, student life, Distinguished Innovator Award.
Jonathan Shearer, information technology, Distinguished Newcomer Award.
Amy Schafer, athletics, Distinguished Extra Effort Award.
Joseph Webb, multicultural affairs, Distinguished Outreach Award.
Robert Schaller, maintenance, Distinguished Service Staff Award.
Warren Keck, business administration, will receive a special commendation for years of service to the College.
Fourth Annual Library Research Awards
Please join the Langenheim Memorial Library staff as they present the fourth annual Library Research Awards on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. in the Lutheran Heritage Room of the Howard Miller Student Center. Students will be honored for excellent research and writing skills in completing their course assignments. All nominees will be recognized at the ceremony and the top five will present their papers.
Recyclemania Competition Scheduled for Feb. 4 through April 12
Ready, set, recycle! Recyclemania is a nationwide recycling rally that includes 630 colleges and universities. Senior environmental science major Ethan Ludwig is coordinating Thiel’s participation in Recyclemania this year, which runs Feb. 4 through April 12.
Please remember and remind students and colleagues to use the recycling bins located all around campus! Faculty contact is Anna Reinsel.

Yozwiak Takes Top Honors at Regional Twirling Competition
On Sunday, Jan. 28, Jessica Yozwiak, sophomore biology major from Boardman, Ohio, competed in the Auxiliaries Ohio Classic Baton Competition and stole the show! Not only did Yozwiak earn a first place as part of a trio, she also earned a first place trophy for her college solo routine
and was named "Best in Class." All while wearing her Thiel College uniform! Congratulations, Jessica!
Student-Athletes of the Week
Morgan Berg, first-year exploratory student from Cleveland, Ohio, finished in 19th place at the SPIRE Midwest Indoor Track & Field Open Saturday in the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 9.65 seconds.
Nic Jones, sophomore early childhood education major from Franklin, Pa., set a lifetime personal best in the high jump (6-6.75) last weekend at the SPIRE Midwest Indoor Track & Field Open in Geneva, Ohio. His jump landed him in second place at the open. Jones’ personal best eclipsed the mark of 6-4.75, which he set at the Al Hall Freedom Games at Edinboro University two weeks ago.

The Rissell-Schreyer Dome is open for walking Monday through Friday 8 - 11 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 6 - 8 p.m.
