Thiel College Names Vice President for College Advancement
Samuel D. Siple has been appointed vice president for college advancement, a position he will assume on July 1.
Siple has substantial advancement and executive leadership experience in education. His most recent positions include senior principal with Jerold Panas, Linzy & Partners, a campaign services and charitable resource development firm, and president of Eden Christian Academy in Pittsburgh, where he developed and managed a comprehensive fundraising program that yielded higher contribution and participation rates. Previously, he served for nearly 10 years at Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pa., as executive director of public relations & marketing and later as vice president for institutional advancement.
"At a critical moment in Thiel College’s growth, we have found a leader for our advancement efforts with a proven track record of success in higher education and a dedication to the ideals of service, integrity and excellence on which Thiel was founded," said Dr. Troy D. VanAken, Thiel College president. "Sam’s leadership, consensus building and open communication style will improve and enhance our fundraising efforts. We look forward to his contributions to the Thiel community."
Siple holds a master’s degree in organizational leadership and a bachelor’s degree in broadcast communications, both from Geneva College.
As vice president for college advancement, Siple will serve as Thiel College’s chief fundraising officer and provide critical leadership to fundraising initiatives, activities and campaigns for the College, as well as provide philanthropic leadership to the campus community and serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet.
Siple currently lives in Pittsburgh with his wife, Donna Lee, and their children, Madison, Kodiak and Sam.

Lambda Simga Inducts 34 New Members for Fall 2012
Thirty-four new members of Lambda Sigma Society were inducted on Aprill 15, 2012 in the David Johnson Memorial Chapel. Lambda Sigma Society is the National Sophomore Honor Society. It was founded in 1922 as the Society of Cwens and became co-ed in 1977. Thiel’s chapter has been in existence since 1952.

Greenville Moose Hosts Pancake Brunch to Benefit Marzano Scholarship
The Greenville Moose Legion Committee is sponsoring an all-you-can-eat pancake brunch on June 17 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 children under 12 years. All proceeds will benefit the "Michael Marzano Scholarship Fund." The event is open to the public. Bring your friends, neighbors and relatives for this good cause and a great meal!

All proceeds benefit local men and women undergoing cancer treatment. Donations of $50 hole sponsorships, Chinese auction baskets or silent auction items (i.e. the use of a vacation home, artwork, NFL tickets, jewelry, golf packages, gift certificates, etc.) are now being accepted. Adult Coed Summer Recreational Soccer League
Shenango Valley Soccer Club is looking for male and female soccer players ages 19 and up to play in a new recreational league that will begin on Sunday, July 1 and run through Sunday, August 26. Games will be played on Sunday afternoon starting at 1 p.m. and will consist of two 30-minute halves. Cost is $25 per player to cover shirt and field fees. Looking for at least four teams to start. A rotational schedule will be set depending on the number of teams registered.
