Thiel Employees Meet Wrestling Legend

Wrestling coaches, Craig Thurber (right) and Jeff Linn (left) lived out a life-long dream on Saturday, Dec. 10. They were invited to Penn State University to meet the Penn State Wrestling Coaching staff, tour the wrestling facilities and attend the PSU vs. WVU match. “It was a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet one of the greatest athletes of all time — Cael Sanderson,” Linn said, “Everyone grows up wishing to one day meet their sports hero or greatest of all time … and we were fortunate enough to do that.”
Cael Sanderson is to wrestling what Michael Jordan is to basketball … except that Sanderson never lost a match in his four years of NCAA competition, going 159-0 and winning four NCAA Championships. He then went on to win a gold medal in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Corey Brown named SAAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month
The Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) announced that Thiel College’s Corey Brown (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds), along with Bethany College’s Tiffany Hoffman, have been named Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Scholar-Athletes of the Month for December 2011.
Brown is a senior student-athlete at Thiel College and a member of the Tomcat wrestling team. Brown is currently ranked fourth in the latest Brute – Adidas National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III individual rankings at 133 pounds. He is the first Tomcat wrestler in school history to earn all-American status on three occasions.
Academically, Brown is a Criminal Justice Studies major and holds a 3.73 GPA. He has been named a Scholar All-American by the NWCA after each of his last two seasons. Brown has earned Dean’s List recognition in each of his six semesters and has twice earned a spot on the PAC Academic Honor Roll.
On campus, Brown is a resident assistant of one of the College’s freshman residence halls, where he focuses on developing and coordinating weekly programming and activities. Brown actively assists the wrestling team in its Big Brother program. He also participates in numerous community service initiatives each year, which includes the community’s annual “Spring Into Action” event, where College organizations and Greenville community groups team up for a campus- and community-wide clean-up day, the annual Lions Club pancake and sausage day, as well as numerous youth wrestling events held at the College.
Each month, SAAC members at a PAC school nominate a student-athlete to highlight based on academic and athletic accomplishments. Honorees must be a varsity member in their respective sport(s) and in their junior or senior year. Scholar-Athletes of the Month must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and be actively involved on his or her campus community.
