Chi Eta Sigma founder returns for ceremony, business seminar

John F. Logan ’65, former Thiel College student and professor, founder of the Chi Eta Sigma business honorary and Loeb Award winner, returned for the annual Chi Eta Sigma inductions and as part of the business seminar series of Professor David Miller ’61 on March 29. He spoke with students about a winding career path that has taken him from Thiel College student to fiscal administrator for Mercer County.

“Overall, the speech was an interesting story of one man’s unique path to find where he enjoys being. To make the evening even more powerful, Professor (Gary) Witosky spoke for a few minutes about the impact that John Logan has had on him. This was a different take than we have seen in class. Professor Witosky’s speech made me think of how much of an impact my professors in the business department have had on me in the last four years. Even as I sit here writing this, I am thinking of more impacts they have had on me, and how bittersweet leaving in a few weeks will be.” — Tiffany Rohm ’17

“The Chi Eta Sigma induction ceremony dinner had the privilege of hosting Mr. John Logan, a Thiel College graduate and professor, as the guest speaker. He had told the group of students about the importance of a Thiel College education, as many speakers have said before him, and as the weeks progress I feel more and more confident about my career future after Thiel College.” — Giuliano Graziosi ’17

“At the end of the session, I asked John how he feels Thiel prepared him for the work world. His answer was wonderful. He said that the small school atmosphere taught him the importance of individuality. He explained that he wouldn’t be where he is today if the professors hadn’t known him and saw the potential in him. Due to that, he has always tried to do his best to see the potential in every person he has worked with. I really enjoyed listening to John, and I think my peers and I learned a lot from the experience and advice he brought to the class.” — Amanda  Zimmerman ’17

“The evening began with the Chi Eta Sigma inductions. Chi Eta Sigma is a business honorary society founded by John F. Logan. Thirteen Thiel students were inducted based on the completion of Chi Eta Sigma’s requirements. Next, the Wall Street Journal, PICPA and departmental honors awards were given to Sara Matczak, Tiffany Rohm and Kelly Thompson, respectfully. Finally, John F. Logan closed the night with his remarkable speech on his winding path of careers.” — Julia Fink ’17

“During the Chi Eta Sigma induction ceremony, I was recognized as a member of the honorary society and got to hand out cords to a new inductee. Then I was awarded The Wall Street Journal Award for being a senior top business administration major. I was very surprised to receive the award and happy to be recognized for all of my hard work. Overall, the class on Wednesday was very exciting, and I learned a lot.” — Sara Matczak ’17

“I really enjoyed the dinner. I was honored to be inducted into Chi Eta Sigma. I worked very hard for this honor and am very proud I achieved it. It was nice to share the honor with current members and the other inductees. The dinner was delicious, especially the coffee dessert! The conversation at our table was lively and enjoyable. Overall, it was a great night filled with wonderful company and a lot of valuable lessons learned.” — Jaclyn Kuzma ’17
