President Susan Traverso, Ph.D., spent part of Tuesday meeting with members of Greenville-area civic groups. She attended a Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce meeting and was a guest of the Rotary Club of Greenville.
Long-distance cycling, “Star Wars,” living in China, travel experiences from Oxford to Ireland to Africa, and a look at research involving Seneca Indians in the southern tier of New York are some of the topics on the agenda for the 2016-2017 Thiel Forums.
The Thiel Forums are held monthly at 4 p.m. on select Thursdays throughout the academic year in the Stamm Lecture Hall in the James Pedas Communication Center. They provide faculty, students and staff an opportunity to share projects or publications and to discuss their work.

George “Chip” D. Dufala Jr. ’92 attracted national attention in the insurance industry when the news broke in early July that he would be joining Kemper Corporation as the company’s President, Property and Casualty Division. According to the Office of Communications and Marketing media monitoring service, this was the most-read College-related news in the past month.

The Greenville Symphony Orchestra will perform a free pops concert on the Howard Miller Student Center lawn. The event is part of Thiel College's yearlong celebration of its sesquicentennial. Guests should bring a blanket or their own chairs.
Startup Weekend seeking students, entrepreneurs
The eCenter@LindenPointe business incubator is hosting a "Startup Weekend: Hermitage, Energy Edition" on Sept. 16-18. The first event of its kind in the Shenango Valley, it will promote energy innovation in the area. Startup Weekend is for developers, designers, marketers, students, entrepreneurs, attorneys and business owners.
Participants will learn how to create a real company and in the process meet mentors and potential investors, co-founders, and sponsors.
Early registration tickets cost $50 and $25 for students. Regular registration tickets cost $75 and $37.50 for students.
